I teach the 16-18 year old young women at church and this past week, our lesson was based around the importance of the Book of Mormon in our lives and honestly, I think the lesson was just as needed for me as it was for them! Sadly, my scripture reading has been nearly nonexistent lately, so this lesson not only renewed my testimony of the Book of Mormon and taught me more things about the scriptures than I ever knew, but it also helped me recommit to reading my scriptures daily. One of the favorite quotes I came across in preparation was the following by Elder Richard G. Scott:
“Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
The scriptures provide the strength of authority to our declarations when they are cited correctly. They can become stalwart friends that are not limited by geography or calendar. They are always available when needed. Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost. Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the world.
Great power can come from memorizing scriptures. To memorize a scripture is to forge a new friendship. It is like discovering a new individual who can help in time of need, give inspiration and comfort, and be a source of motivation for needed change.” (The Power of Scripture // Elder Richard G. Scott)
I love the idea of memorizing scriptures being like making a new friend who can help you through hard times. And packets of light that illuminate our minds? That is definitely something I need on a daily basis! I made this fun little printable to challenge my Young Women to read along with me for the next 30 days and then record their testimony in a copy of the Book of Mormon and keep it with them whenever possible. Even living in Utah, you never know when the opportunity to influence someone for good with your testimony and a book full of everything that we believe as Latter Day Saints.
I loved being able to share the power of the scriptures with my sweet young women, and would love to help you do the same! You can download a PDF of this scripture challenge printable HERE. It is formatted with 4 to a page to make it easy for you to print a bunch of them at once, or you can just print one for yourself or your family members. I highly recommend pairing it with the cute little temple stickers sold at Deseret Book for extra incentive to read…There is just something so fun about putting a sticker on a chart! 😉
If you have any questions about printing the file, scriptures, or the LDS church, feel free to email me. 🙂 And as usual, if you use this printable either for yourself or your class, I would love to see! Tag @breezyandco // #breezyandco on social media or email me your pictures.
